About 4x4 zellige

The 4x4 square (about 10 x 10 cm) is the classic zellige size and the one most people picture: a glossy, uneven tile with soft edges that catch the light. Each tile is pressed from Fez clay, glazed by hand, fired and then cut to size with a hammer.

Where to use it

4x4 zellige is used on kitchen backsplashes, bathroom walls, shower walls and fireplace surrounds. It can also be used on low-traffic floors once sealed.

Installing 4x4 zellige

Because every tile is slightly different in thickness and shape, zellige is usually laid with a thin grout joint of 1 to 2 mm. Mix tiles from several boxes as you go so the colour variation spreads evenly over the wall.
